I don’t know how! Nor have I ever eaten them. I need to work on fitting in better. 😅 But seriously, the locals will do a big outdoor roasting thing in the fall, so I can glom on to that.
I think we can all agree that your first mistake was "pants". Your second mistake was "pants that got a hole on their second use". But your *third* mistake was "back pocket".
NEVER PUT THINGS IN THE BACK POCKET.
You're going to sit on whatever you put back there. Maybe that's only uncomfortable. Maybe that also breaks it.
And it invites pickpocketing, because it's not someplace within eyesight. Having stuff fall out, also too, for the same reason.
That's why I always put my wallet and phone (when it's not on a belt-clip) in my *front* pocket. If someone tries to reach in there, I'M GOING TO NOTICE.
LOL, I’m in the countryside. Nobody is here to pickpocket me. As for the rest, I always put my phone in my back pocket when I hike. When I sit I take it out so as to load photos from my camera, which I keep in my front pocket for easy access. There are reasons I do things!
However, I have learned some lessons today.
Also, I should add, these pants were expensive and a well-known brand. I am really annoyed because they clearly were not well made.
I speak and read no French at all but my addiction to reading all interpretive signs made me try and figure out the sign. I got the gist if not the exact details. Lovely cows
My little town was bisected by the Line of Demarcation. Interesting stuff, and I recently learned more in the Angoulême Resistance Museum that I just visited last week. I’ll have to write about it someday.
Pants! Run away!
You're gonna go back and harvest those chestnuts, right?

It’s amazing how much Frenchy countryside resembles Americany countryside, berries, bees, corns and those big sprinklers!

Beautiful plumage.
I think this spiky lime green nuts were hazelnuts.
How did you do this????
I am trying to do a Substack and I can't make it work. I followed ziggy instructions. I checked the wonk site per SisterA.
Nothing.
GRRRRRRR
Any hints at starting from the beginning?

In my admittedly limited experience, the French are very forgiving, and snottily corrective, if you try and talk french to them.
They are pretty nice around here. I’ve really only been language-shamed in Paris where exasperated waiters and shopkeepers have no time for fumbling.
