Saw Mr. MacManus in Ithaca, NY just under a year ago. My third time around, going back to '79. He's approximately the shape of a pumpkin now, but within five minutes of taking the stage, nobody noticed. He had a backup band to die for and his mix of charm and 'tude had us eating out of his hand.
He dipped into every aspect of his catalogue, but made sure not to neglect those first three LPs.
That song was my intro to Elvis Costello, because the guy I was rooming with at the time loved him and picked this as the first song of his he played for me to listen to.
Oh, yeah — the other roomie was my friend Tim, so I had spent quite a lot of time hanging out in their apartment. And I wanted to get back to Chapel Hill, so when they needed a third person I was all, “heck yeah!” 😁 Sadly, a couple of years later Tim was heading off to grad school in Colorado and Simon was moving in with his wife-to-be (they’re still together, btw), and so I had to change apartments. Fortunately, one of our other buddies, Rick, needed a roommate about then, so I moved in with him. We roomed together for several years until he was ready to move into a nicer place and I was ready to move in with the soon to be Mrs JC.

Money well spent, indeed.
Got arrested at my first Costello show for flipping off a cop. Good times!
Oh Martini, I so love it when you do music gifs. You are so clever. Thank you!
You are the best, darlin'!

And I love what you did with the lyrics.
Your roomie picked a good intro. I hope that bode well for the habitation.
And thank you :)

Aww!
This Rockpalast show makes me want to by old EC albums. My collection is sadly lacking.
