This is another classic film I have seen but not in many years. I knew about Chaney's makeup and often wondered how he could stand to wear it for so long. Cheney's makeup kit is in the in archives at LA Museum of Natural History, I believe. There's footage of the curator explaining what it contains, etc, hands-on:)
The elements of the climax of the film would be reworked for most of Universal's horror films of later decades- so Stage 28 wasn't the only thing they recycled...

Lon Chaney had a cabin built a few miles past the end of the paved road a block north of me. He didn't get to use it much, since he died a year later.
