Ta, Martini. I was completely unfamiliar with this species; never read The Jungle Book.

I did not know that Baloo was a sloth bear. Of course I did not know what a sloth bear was until Martini educated me. I wondered why their noses were shaped like that. Clever evolution. I know I wouldn't want bugs crawling up my nostrils. Babby bears are adorable but don't try to hug them! Momma bear will not be happy if you do. Thanks, Martini, for the adorables and the learning.

I love animals but can't make up my mind about zoos.

Fair enough. I will say, though, that responsible zoos treat their animals well, make sure they are enriched and happy and generally captive animals live longer with proper diets and healthcare. Zoos also are important for the genetic preservation of animals that are going extinct, and they help with studies and public awareness. If humans could be trusted to leave animals alone and not ruin their habitats, animals might always be better off in nature, but sadly that is not the case.

Agreed. They're probably a good thing on balance, and I say that as somebody who lies in San Diego.

Well yes I probably do lie from time to time, and when I do, I do it in San Diego, where I live.

Sometimes a zoo animal has a condition that would prevent him/her living in the wild.

Yep. Zoos do all kinds of great conservation work. As I say, it's complicated.

So this is probably what Baloo would have looked like if he was real. Disney got it slightly wrong...

Aw baby dookies. So cute. Once again you save the world by making TABs bareable these days.

That was not meant as a pun.
