Several years ago I came across an online article about “The Treachery Of Images.” Included was a photo of a letter written by Magritte wherein he assigns an alternate interpretation of the painting's script. He said that “une pipe” is French for “a pipe,” but also slang for “blowjob;” and that he’s saying that the painting of the pipe is not a blowjob.

LOL, sounds like a very “Magritte” response.

I do en;joy your write ups, Martini. While I was familiar with Magritte's most famous works I wasn't aware of many of the pieces in your tabs opening. Thank you!

I forgot to mention the masterpiece of THAT man in an orange jump suit with his favorite hamberder and the bowl of mashed potatoes. I loved that story of his brother, Fred, using the potatoes to stop the torture of their youngest brother. It was the perfect touch.

Wait, I don't think I've ever heard that story about Fred. Do tell!

His niece Mary said that when Trump was 7 and the family was gathering for dinner that Trump was picking on Robert. Fred Jr told him to stop and he wouldn't so Fred picked up a bowl of mash potatoes and plopped it on Trump's head. According to Mary this is considered a funny family story except to Trump who was humiliated and hates it. She said the best way to get at her thin skinned uncle is to mention mashed potatoes.

Magritte has long been one of my favorites. I first heard of him with the release of Beck-ola in 1968 or so. The album art features the apple in a room. Thanks for this!
