I love it when cedar waxwings come through by the hundreds and decimate the berries from the weird holly-like tree in my yard. They feast for a day or so then they’re gone.
We have a similar conflagration, usually between Christmas and New Years. Some years if we’ve had unseasonably warm spells the asian pears have partly fermented and it’s a ruckus, drunken party.
I know we are all thinking it but I'm going to say it out loud: Icarus already proved the impracticality of waxwings so be careful out there everybody. Also these young people and their dance rituals, what is the world coming to? Sorry my brain is in a weird place this morning. Thanks, Martini for sharing the footage of birds playing pass the berry.
Oh my God, I had a flock of these creatures in the tree behind my house for about a week. They were incredibly noisy and whiny! I was relieved when they finally left. They’re beautiful but noisy in large groups.

Berry efficient are these waxwings and berry productive too.
They are the prettiest little birds! I love seeing them out and about.
Used to come right up to the cedar hedge that was two feet from a window at my grandparents’ house. Thanks for reminding me!

Beautiful birds. A flock is something to behold.

I’ve seen this ritual, only they were passing a twig.
Great to watch.
Ta, Martini. Dunno if I've ever seen one in person.
Love cedar waxwings. They look so avant-garde or art deco or I don't know what. But they're beautiful.
