From "The Hobbit":

" 'You must go on and find out all about that light, and what it is for, and if all is perfectly safe and canny,' said Thorin to the hobbit. 'Now scuttle off, and come back quick, if all is well. If not, come back if you can! It you can’t, hoot twice like a barn-owl and once like a screech-owl, and we will do what we can.'

Off Bilbo had to go, before he could explain that he could not hoot even once like any kind of owl any more than fly like a bat".

That owl is having fun which is fun to watch. Owls have the most amazing eyes. The ability to turn their head all the way around is kind of freaky though. And the less said about owl legs the better. I'm glad that the owl eggs were saved. I hope the owls are enjoying their lives. Thanks, Martini!

Owl legs are freakishly long! Pretty sure I learned that from Martini, as well.

The one critter I wish I could attract to my property! Got no hollows in my trees, alas.

I honestly don’t know what owls are around here. I’m pretty sure we have barn owls. I’ve only heard them a couple of times and only seen one at twilight. I live on the edge of a big field though, and there’s plenty of prey for them.

Edit: The interwebs provide!

We're fortunate to live in a wooded area where there are plenty of birds, including various owl species. We were alarmed by a horrifying noise one night. It sounded like an animal being brutally murdered. It was a juvenile screech owl, testing his pipes.

The Screech Owls is the name of a hockey team in a series of children's books by Canadian author Roy MacGregor- their logo looks like what Owlfredo would if she attacked somebody...

Shout out to Stone Zoo! That was my "home zoo" as a young un, many years ago. It was also home, for many years, to Major the polar bear, whose height was used as the yardstick to measure the snowiness of Massachusetts winters. Thanks for the trip down memory lane, Martini!

What an adorable little thing. I notice she is very careful with her splashes making sure nowhere is in the water for too long as a waterlogged owl is a terrible thing to behold.

Thanks Martini!! I have one of those old heavy bird baths that take two people to move. I stand and supervise because it's so heavy. I think it's moved twice in 30 years.

Always marvelous Martini!

I love animals, and I hope Owlfredo thinks her human caregivers are giant screech owls 🦉.
