I think that is one of the things I'll miss the most when I leave the desert - quail, especially the peeps!

I love when you see a good sized flock of adults going along. Their little top knots bob in unison as they scurry about their business. I’m not much of a bird person but I love quail and ravens. Now, I need to speak with the ravens about eating the quail babies but that’s for later, in private. There will be a scolding!

I didn't know he had a youtube channel; I've only seen his posts in my Tucson NextDoor feed! Quail are also common in the city; I see them sometimes trooping across the street at a run; even the little ones can run like crazy.

My cat approves of that video. Interesting that at the end, the female starts taking a couple of steps away and the male Nervously moves in her direction, like he’s anticipating her going AWOL and is not looking forward to being a single parent of 19.

That is a lot of babies. Must be a Quiverfull family. When we first moved to Arizona in 1975 the only quail I ever saw were the Scaled Quail aka Cotton Top Quail (have a tuft of white feathers on their head). Sometime after coming back from Germany in 1990 I began noticing a few Gambel's Quails as well. After a few years I saw more Gambel's and less Cotton Tops. It has been probably 15 years since I've seen any Cotton Tops where I live. I hear quail everyday in my back yard. They always have a look out sitting on our wall watching for predators. The wall protects them from coyotes but there are still plenty of hawks and owls around. Thanks for the gif, Martini!
