Today’s hed gif is from TikTok user potatothepersian, with an initially-confused cat learning about Newton’s first law of motion: a body retains its state of momentum unless a force is acted upon it. In this example, the box/kitty entity is at rest until the human force gives it forward momentum. This moves box and kitty forward until the human force stops the box. But the stopping force is not applied to the kitty, whose momentum continues as he slides forward and out of the box. I think after Potato learns what is going on, he’s quite taken with the experiment. Until he isn’t, because he’s a cat and has important things to do.
My cat named Potatoes already knows all about this physics phenomenon because she watches science videos on YouTube. She’s not the brightest student, but she does love watching motion on-screen. And she’s a big fan of boxes, as are all cats.

Cats always cheer up a morning! But why call them after tubers?
Potatoes is a lovely cat. As for Potato, very stubborn. Really insisted that he needed to stay in the box. My Cosmo would have run away after the first interference of his time in the box. Cosmo does not care about SCIENCE! Thanks Martini.
