Pro photographer Nicolas Reusens treats us to an amazing capture today: a slow-motion video of a kingfisher’s successful spearing of a little fish. That pretty bird has the mad skills! There are 118 recognized species of kingfishers in the world, distributed widely throughout most of planet’s temporate, subtropic and tropical climate zones. As per the post, this one was filmed in Catalonia so it is likely a common kingfisher (a.k.a. Eurasian kingfisher). I think one of the cuter little factoids about common kingfishers is that males will share their fish with the female that they are courting.

I kind of love Reusens’ Instagram channel, which I do recommend checking out. His bird photographs and videos are quite enjoyable, but also he’s included himeslf in some of the shots reacting to his bird friends, and he’s hysterical. Clearly he’s a guy that loves what he does. And he’s quite good at it; his work featured in Times photographs of the year, National Geographic, Popular Photography and loads of other publications and awards. More examples of his work can be found at his website, linked below.
