Wonkette is in Milwaukee, maybe will visit a brewery… maybe Shotz!
Today we are watching the original opening credits—aired on 1976–from TV’s Laverne & Shirley. A spin-off from the sitcom Happy Days, Laverne & Shirley ran for eight seasons on ABC. In its third and fourth seasons, it was the highest-rated show on television, and over the course of its run was nominated for six Golden Globes and one Emmy.
Similar to Happy Days, the show was set in the 1950’s. Laverne (played by Penny Marshall) and Shirley (Cindy Williams) are roommates and best friends that work as bottlers in the fictitious Shotz Brewery in Milwaukee, Wisconson; well, that is up until the show’s sixth season, when they move to Burbank, California along with neighbors Lenny (Michael McKean) and Squiggy (David Lander). Funnily enough, although the show was set in Milwaukee, it was filmed entirely in California. Ah, the magic of Hollywood.
Meanwhile, your totally NOT fictitious team of Wonkette reporters are in actual real Milwaukee today, covering the shenanigans at the Republican National Convention. We can no doubt count on a ‘uuge spate of stories about how Donald Trump is a real martyr and lamentations wondering why politics are so mean and hate-filled these days, all delivered without a hint of irony or self-reflection. It will be all be a shameless circus. Rebecca and the gang will definitely deserve a beer or two after sitting though all that gaslighting nonsense. Perhaps you’d like to buy them a round? If so, mash the beer button below, baby!
A lovely intro to a week of performances by the swamp dwellers and audience reaction by we who cannot look away.
Great Martini! Thanks.
