Aw, check out these besties at the Memphis Zoo, having a rest before what I imagine will be all kinds of shennigans. Asian small-clawed otters, the smallest of all otter species, are highly social, as this sleepy bucket of pals illustrates, in the wild living in groups of up to 15 individuals. They are also the most terrestrial of all otter species, native to the mangrove swamps and freshwater wetlands of southern India, China and Southeast Asia where they forage for shellfish or hunt amphibians on riverbanks or gracefully slide into the water to catch fish. But not right at this moment… they are napping!
Source below. You may want to click though for some videos and pictures of them in more active moments. Although I’m finding watching that napping pile to be pretty soothing, to be honest.
More info on this adorable (and vulnerable-classified) species can be found here:
"Spoon! Ever'boddy -- roll over."
That was a big yawn. Then another otter nuzzles his/her cheek. And the one who changes position and the one he lands on who seems to be saying "hey, my ass is not a pillow" as he tries to squirm away. This is too cute for words...and yet I came up with some. Thank you, Martini!
