Gwen Verdon as a Blind Mouse
Part of her Nursery Tunes Routine from the Danny Kaye Show
Today’s hed gif has Gwen Verdon and friends dancing to the tune of “Three Blind Mice.” The segment is part of a routine of dances set to nursery tunes that she performed on the Danny Kay Show, season 1, episode 9, which aired November, 1963. The set was dedicated to her six-month-old daughter, Nicole Fosse and as Kaye puts it:
Gwen and Tony Charmoli, our choregrapher, have worked out a special set of dances that they’re gonna do to nursery tunes, and on behalf of the show we’d like to dedicate it to little Nicole. Now, since it’s past Nicole’s bedtime, we’re having a film made of it for her so that she can see it one day when she wakes up a young lady.
Nicole Fosse is 61 now. By this point, I imagine she’s seen the charming film made for her. The entire piece is below for your viewing pleasure.
In November of 1963 I was a month old. Nicolle Fosse and I are about the same age.
November 1963 is when we returned from Honduras. I was 3 years and 3 months old and that is when my memories begin. My parents always liked watching variety shows so I'm sure they watched The Danny Kaye show. The US pulled personnel from Honduras because there was a coup. Our neighbors were all Honduran so at three I was bilingual. The Honduran people would bravely spit at the soldiers who were everywhere after the coup. To my mother's chagrin I copied our neighbors. She said it was a little worrisome to walk around with me spitting at the soldiers but the soldiers would just laugh. I was too adorable to get mad at, I guess. I always love some Gwen Verdon so thank you Martini.
