Today’s header gif features a plump, round Common Rain Frog. YouTuber Ninja Frog has this video and many others of rotund ribbiting pets, which they call Potato Fairies:
The Common Rain Frog is one of the many rain frog species from Sub-Saharan Africa. It lives most of its life in underground burrows that it digs to escape its hot and dry environment, emerging only after it rains in order to hunt for insects and to mate. When a male finds a receptive female, she’ll secrete a glue-like substance and the much smaller male will stick to her back until she digs a new egg-laying burrow where he will fertilize the eggs. Sir David Attenborough explains the process in this BBC video short.
